Giveaway: Camille Roskelley Book / Beauties Pageant 37

We’re a week into school vacation up here in Massachusetts, and I’ve come to terms with the fact that this is going to be the Summer of Quilt Tops. I need sewing that requires little brain power, projects that I can pick up and put down easily. Of course, out of necessity, the Fall of Quilting will have to follow the Summer of Quilt Tops, but I can live with that.

I just added Camille Roskelley’s Little Man pattern, from her Simplify book, to my Summer of Quilt Tops to-do list. It’s a quilt I’ve made twice before, once in a contrasting blue and orange palette ...

And again in a more subdued palette ...

The beauty of this pattern is that the blocks don’t require much fabric—I made the first two versions with mere scraps of novelty prints I had stubbornly held on to. Plus, the final product is about 40 inches by 51 inches—I prefer gifting generously sized baby quilts.

My third Little Man quilt will be more of a Little Lady quilt, featuring Seaside Carnival, a collection by Rae Ritchie for Dear Stella. There is no intended recipient for this quilt yet, but since it’s the Summer of Quilt Tops, I don’t think that matters. Let the unquilted tops pile up!

A Giveaway

If you want to make your own Little Man quilt, you’re in luck: I have a copy of Simplify to give away. Just comment below to be entered to win. (If a prompt would be helpful, let us know whether there’s a quilt pattern you find yourself making again and again. What’s so great about it?)

The giveaway is open to U.S. recipients only. (To those of you in Canada, Germany, and beyond, you know this pains me, but the cost of shipping internationally would exceed the value of the book.) The random-number generator will pick a winner on Friday, June 28. If you’re a no-reply blogger, please drop me a note at frombolttobeauty (at) gmail (dot) com with your email address in case you win.

Update: Kathy S. is the winner!

  1. With all those quilt tops, you're going to need a longarm! That's what happened to me. Right now I'm enjoying repeating the Meadowland quilt pattern--working on number 2 and the fabrics for number 3 are picked out.

  2. I really like your Little Man quilts, especially the fact that you used up fabric you had on hand! I know I could do that too with my scraps! I haven't made any quilt patterns twice (yet) because there's always something new I haven't made that keeps me plugging away!

  3. I would love to win Camille's book. She has such awesome patterns. I find myself using a pattern called Rail and Square that I was given from an early quilt class. It goes together beautifully with any kind of fabric combination.

  4. I have a couple that I've made several times - because they are incredibly fast and easy! Anything complicated or time-consuming is definitely not repeated! Lol!

  5. I love both your versions, but you know that orange and blue one is my favourite. ☺ I'd love to win this book so I can make this pattern. I don't live in US but have a US address. Enjoy the summer break.

  6. The one scrappy quilt I can make dozens of times is the 9-patch, but I never run out of scraps! How is this so?

  7. I tend to make different patterns each time because there are so many quilts I want to make and I don't have time in my life to repeat, but sometimes for mindless sewing, it is nice to have a rail fence going in the background. It is quick, easy, versatile.

  8. I have made the disappearing nine patch more than once; however, I tend to try something new each time I make a quilt. I love your quilts and would love to have the book to try to make one. You caught me when you said you used fabric that you had saved for a long time. I have just the fabric that I would love to make something like this with. Thanks for sharing.

  9. I don't find myself making the same pattern again and again. I do love 4-patches and make them a lot as leaders and enders. I am a scrap lover and I do find myself making Bonnie Hunter patterns from one book to the next.

  10. Good Morning Michelle! The summer of sewing followed by the Fall of quilting sounds like a win/win all around. Who wants complicated when there are so many things going on?! My go-to pattern is the Irish Chain quilt. All the time - so many of this quilt have been made because it's a good one to do in the middle of other projects. Those blocks almost put themselves together. I hope you are enjoying nice weather (finally). ~smile~ Roseanne

  11. I've made the little man quilt as well, in black grey and yellow giraffe fabric. It's a great easy quilt I love both of your versions but the second one the best. Don't put me in the draw as I live in Canada and I do know about the huge shipping costs. Totally understand. That's why I buy everything pretty much from Canadian sources.

  12. I love making baby quilts. For years I resisted as I felt quilts needed to be large to be functional. Hah! Baby quilts are such quick finishes and so easy to quilt on my DSM.

  13. I love baby quilts-- faster than larger sizes and I never get bored. they are also way more fun esp when one gets pix of the babies on top of them

  14. I think the little man pattern would be a great charity quilt design. Thanks for the chance to win this book. Love it!

  15. Great pageant of quilts! I made a Little Man quilt once before I started blogging. I know I took pictures of it, but was never able to find them.
