This quilt was a long time coming. In fact, I first blogged about it nearly two years ago. It wasn’t sewing the quilt that was difficult, though; it was collecting low-volume fabrics for the background that took years. But it was a fun process. Some of the fabrics came from low-volume charm swaps I helped organize. Others came from a fat-quarter swap we did in my guild. I found the remaining fabrics in quilt shops here and there across New England.

| I based my palette for the stars on the Maureen Cracknell floral in the middle. |

ReplyDeleteI have seen many quilts using low volume prints for the background and I really do like them. So I started collecting low volume fat quarters. But I have yet to make a quilt out of them. I've used a few in small projects, but I always end up using solid white for my background. Maybe soon I will use the low volume backgrounds.

ReplyDeleteLovely quilt! I enjoy quilts with printed and solid fabrics mixed. Most often it is colorful prints and plain background. Love your reverse. Have been thinking about something like that for a while too. Glad to see I works :)

ReplyDeleteBlaze really is a beauty. I love the emphasis the white border gives the center, and how well the solid star points contrast with the low volume background. The low volume swaps have sure helped me diversity my collection. Now I just need to put them to use outside of occasional bee blocks. Your Blaze quilt is gorgeous, Michelle! I especially love how it looks like a solid background from a distance, but there's an additional layer of detail up close from the mix of low volume prints you used. Great job!
