Proof of Progress / Beauties Pageant 177

Hello, dear readers! I have to admit, today’s post is more for me than it is for you. I need a reminder that the work I’ve been doing at my computer and my sewing machine will eventually come to fruition.

I’ve gotten really good at spending more time at my computer in design mode this year. This might come as a surprise to you, considering the only pattern I’ve released has been in the pages of Love Patchwork and Quilting! When will another pattern see the light of day? School in my town let out yesterday, so it’s likely not to be anytime soon!

Meanwhile, the quilt tops are piling up. At the top of the post, you’ll see my Rain or Shine Quilt, designed by Camille Roskelley and featuring multiple fabric collections designed by her and her mom. It’s a simple pattern to follow, but it requires a ton of sewing. (The star sashing alone required snowballing 336 corners!) The finish line is far away, though: Before basting/quilting/binding this project, I need to finish the top with a border. Blerg!

And below is my Ridiculously Easy Jelly Roll Quilt, which I spray-basted last November and have yet to begin quilting. The first step in completing that project will be dusting it off—yes, literally.

There are two other projects that are pressed and ready to go to a longarmer. Fingers crossed I can drop them off soon. A finish would be welcome right now!

Part of this plight is my own doing. Yes, pattern writing and quilting are time-consuming endeavors to begin with, but I also like to have many balls in the air at a time.

I suspect you feel the same at points with your own projects. Any advice for staying energized and optimistic? Share your thoughts in the comments below. : )

  1. When I saw your first quilt at the top of the page I thought Oh my that is a lot of piecing, but it's going to be a beauty for sure. Today I don't have any energy-we had our second booster yesterday and it zapped away my energy which is usually pretty good. For me I get energy to make more when someone buys something from my shop, LOL.

  2. Ditto to Vicki's comment - that top quilt is gorgeous but soooo many pieces!!
I am also trying to get organized. I really want to start some new projects but cannot. It seems wrong (in my mind) since I have quite a few unfinished. So that is my goal for now. Finish, finish, finish!!! Have fun with your boys! That is what summer is all about. :-)

  3. I do the same thing - so many projects on the go and then I keep switching between them so it's hard to see that I'm actually making progress. I feel your pain, lol. All of your projects are looking fantastic, though!

  4. I think having this weekly link up party would be as good a motivator for me as anything. Getting to see what everyone else is working on, connecting and talking with friends in the community. I hope that you are continuing to have fun, and that's probably a bit what having all those tasks going on at the same time is about: having some things that need to be done balanced by finding excitement, anticipation, and joy in the others!

  5. I feel like am only doing the most important thing at that time. Soooo looking forward to a less intense todo list where it is more about joy and not figuring out priorities. Or am I naive for hoping it might get there again? Currently I am doing "strategic ball dropping" - read that somewhere recently and it resonated ;)

  6. I hear you on the pattern writing being time-consuming, and the many balls in the air. Both of your tops here are beauties! As for school out, yep that eats into sewing time, but they're only young once, and I know it's cliché but it's so true, so enjoy it and grab a few minutes when you can to stitch a bit!

  7. Ahh. I remember those "good 'ole days" of wanting to work on my own projects, but being pulled other directions by family. I wish I could give you some tips, but I can only suggest "early retirement." Ha, ha. Still, it's can be difficult to be self-motivated, whether still working or retired. When time is on your hands, it's too easy to tell oneself, "I can work on it tomorrow" and that's no good either. All I know is that the best motivation and time use is when there's something that really captures your attention - that you WANT to work on. That's when efficiency happens.

  8. Hi Michelle! I'm sorry I've been remiss about reading and sharing - you know, life. And that is my suggestion for your projects and pattern writing. Life! Do you have a deadline for the quilt tops being finished or for the pattern? If you do, then you have to schedule time to complete them. Period. If not, then who cares?? Enjoy your family, and sew/quilt/write when you have time. It will all get done. Eventually. It might be tomorrow, it might be next month, it might be next year. As long as you are all right with it, everyone else will be as well. No stress, my friend. No one asks for stress so don't invite it in. Okay? I'll be happy to be your cheerleader (or nag). {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne P.S. Thanks for the linky party!!!
