My husband, who neither blogs nor quilts, argues that I haven’t tapped into this site’s full potential. He has his own theory about growing my readership, one that has nothing to do with my let’s-learn-together attitude or the quality of my pictures. His strategy for From Bolt to Beauty can be summed up in one word: puppies.
After all, what do quilters and nonquilters alike love? Puppies! What makes everyone smile? Puppies! What’s better than quilts? Quilts and puppies!
There was a lot of talk about the merits of puppies as a quilt-blog marketing ploy in the months that led up to bringing home Rose, our golden retriever. (As the mom to two little boys, I was reluctant to add to our family another creature that could wreck my house.)
Rose is no stranger to FBTB. She debuted here in September 2015, when I revealed the hazard she poses to my quilts. (See Rose, Textile Enemy No. 1.) When my husband caught wind of Pets on Quilts, an event hosted by Lilypad Quilting, he knew it was time for Rose to make another appearance.
I tried to get Rose on a quilt so I could take pictures. This is what happened ...

Here was the closest I could come to getting my pet on a quilt for a picture. It was a fleeting moment and was followed soon thereafter by Rose ignoring the quilt and eating grass. Sigh.
Is my husband on to something? I’m not convinced. My next post will have less puppy content and more quilt content, for sure!

So cute!! I tried a few years ago with my dog and got about the same results. Guess our dogs won't be famous quilt models!

ReplyDeleteThis is so funny! Yes my dog constantly lays on any piece of fabric I put on the floor. But I'm sure if I wanted a picture of him in that pose he'd act like he never touched the stuff. Rose is a good sport and a beautiful girl!
ReplyDeleteRose is beautiful! Reminds me of my Bronx who refuses to pose with my quilts. My cat Puffs, on the hand, can always be found lounging on a WIP or a pile of fabric. 😄
ReplyDeleteSuch a cutie! And I know your struggle to get a good picture showcasing a quilt AND a furbaby. My cat and dog both don't cooperate very well. Lol. I usually trick my hound into a quilt picture by laying the quilt in the floor and waiting for him to take a nap on it! :)

ReplyDeleteAdorable! But I think cats are more of a natural quilt model... Woody poses on a quilt whether or not I have a camera in my hand. :P Puppies have too much energy to sit still!

ReplyDeleteRose is quite a beauty. I'm sweet on goldens but it's rarely easy to get a posed picture of them. They are just natural clowns and always keep me smiling. :-)

ReplyDeleteThis made me laugh. Rose is adorable. Just another way dogs and cats can be so different. I can't get the cats off a quilt half the time, even if it's still half under my sewing machine!

ReplyDeleteThat is too funny! Honestly, if you have a pet...you have quilt/pet pictures! Cat, dog, it doesn't matter. As for your husbands puppy theory, he may be right! I posted a baby elephant on my latest post, that counts too! (disclaimer: I do not have a pet baby elephant, but want one!)
